The Parish Priest of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Rev Fr. Dr. Tijjani Ezekiel Danlami has told the just inducted members of Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Catholics, who graduated from ABU, the previous year, that they have been equipped and inducted into their profession to make a positive difference anywhere they find themselves. The honorees were inducted on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Leaning on the Gospel reading of Sunday, February 8, 2026, on ‘You are the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Mt. 5:13-16), the clergyman, who congratulated the newly inductees, pointed them to the expectations of the society from them, because the knowledge that they have acquired from the University is beyond academic, stretching to moral, social, and other aspects of their lives. .
He said, “We celebrate you because you are being commissioned to become salts to the earth and light of the word. Your graduation is not only academic. It is also moral and social. Social in the sense that, after leaving the University, and you go back home, your lives must be as contagious as the salt that people of your community will feel the impact of the knowledge you have acquired from this great institution.”
“As you affect people, surely, they become as you are. You are not to keep whatever you have acquired to yourself. Make sure that people around you feel your impact. You are not to remain as you are planted. You are to blossom and when you blossom, you affect people very close to you and even those far from you. You must be men and women enough to ensure that your kind of person is replicated around your environment.”
“God was molding you to unleash you to the world, that when you come out, you become a blessing. As you go out we commend you into the Hands of God. May He establish you as the salt of the earth and light of the world that people may find shelter in your life! May people find comfort around you! You must shine because God has chosen.”
In an interview with Trinitas Newspaper, one of the inductees and the immediate past immediate President of Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS), Engr. Alex Ogbolu, revealed, that his new status will help him and his colleagues transit from academic engineering to practicing engineering, signaling “seriousness and professional alignment, demonstrates commitment to ethical standards and enhances employer perception.”
