As the Mother Church marked the Feast of the Eucharist, Catholics have been urged to strive to be in the state of grace always, in order to form the habit of receiving the Blessed Sacrament frequently. Rev. Fr. Pius Ejiofor, a priest of Onitsha Archdiocese, gave the charge while delivering a Sunday homily.
According to Fr. Ejiofor, Christians should not take the reception of the Blessed Sacrament lightly, as it is a vital source of spiritual strength. He disclosed that Christians stand to receive numerous spiritual benefits beyond human understanding from the reception of the Blessed Sacrament.
“Frequent reception of the Blessed Sacrament draws us closer to God and empowers us to conquer the deep desire and hunger for committing sins,” Fr. Ejiofor said. “Shun occasions of sin and waste no time in reconciling with God whenever you mistakenly commit sin through frequent going to confession.”
Fr. Ejiofor also charged Christian parents to teach their children about God, reminding them that the family is the first school open to children for learning. “When you teach your wards about God and morals, they will grow up with such teaching and uphold such knowledge,” he said.
He added that children who are taught about God and morals will become agents of change in society, pointing out that whatever is happening in any society is a reflection of the kind of families we raise.
The Feast of the Eucharist serves as a reminder to Christians of the importance of the Blessed Sacrament in their lives. By striving to be in the state of grace always and receiving the Blessed Sacrament frequently, Christians can deepen their relationship with God and live a life of purpose and meaning.
