The Center for Ethics and Self Value Orientation, an international anti corruption organization on Monday, May 20th presented multiple merit awards to St Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital Onitsha and College of Nursing Sciences of the same hospital over excellent performances in the area of ethical compliance.
The Executive director of the center Prince S. Musa Yakubu in his keynote address shortly before presenting the awards revealed that St Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital emerged 1st position in South East Region and ranked 5th position out of best 100 selected private hospitals in Nigeria in the area of ethical standard compliance after conducting a duly and diligent independent empirical investigation. He also disclosed that College of Nursing Sciences, St Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital Onitsha emerged first position among the privately owned College of Nursing Sciences in Anambra state after a through empirical investigation by the center and ranked 5th position among the 37 best private and public colleges of Nursing Sciences in Nigeria.
The director stated that the center was equally impressed by the way and mannar the management of the hospital and the college are conducting their affairs, adding that both the hospital and the college are exuding high level of transparency in their managerial affairs an exemplary management acumen others needed to emulate. They maintained that the mission of the center is to bring to line light Hospitals and institutions that are are professionally ethically compliance and are corrupt free while the quacks are exposed. The director disclosed that through their independent investigation and recommendations, so many quack hospitals have been closed down by the government while the operators were sent to jail, adding that they will not relent until Nigerian society is sanitized of corruption in such areas. He stated that after through investigation, no corruption or sharp practices was traced to St Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital Onitsha and her college of nursing sciences, emphasizing that the hospital never compromised values for which it was established for, declaring the hospital as custodian of health of the people of the country.
They poured encomiums on the proprietor of the hospital and college His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke the Archbishop of Onitsha for establishing one of the best hospitals and a leading College of Nursing Sciences in the country, stating that the Archbishop is sincere in providing the best affordable and accessible primary health care in Nigeria and African sub region and commended him for his leadership dexterity that has translated into innovations that are transforming the society and bring succour to humanity. The director further extolled the Archbishop for investing in Nigeria for people to have life whereas corrupt politicians in our midst are building refineries overseas to inflict hardship on the citizens.
In recognition of excellent performances of the Hospital the center through the director Prince Yakubu presented Ethical Leadership and Compliance Certificate EIAA award to the Archbishop Okeke who was represented by the Chief Executive officer CEO of the hospital Rev Fr Dr Izunna Okonkwo . Also, the CEO Fr Izunna was honoured with Professional Ethics Compliance Ambassador PECA Award for ensuring that ethical standard are maintained at the hospital.
St Charles Borromeo College of Nursing Sciences led by the astute administrator Rev Fr Fidelis Nwanze bagged Cooperate Business Ethics and Integrity compliance award.
The coordinator Health services, Onitsha Archdiocese Very Rev Fr Basil Ekwunife who was represented at the event also received professional Ethics Compliance and Quality Services delivery Award.
The center further promised to train 100 staff of the Hospital and the college for free in ethical conduct and leadership in the work places, a part of their support and encouragement to the hospital and the college, enjoining them not to relent in excellent managerial ability and ethical standard compliance.
Fr Izunna Okonkwo who spoke on behalf of the Archbishop commended the center for their good mission that geared towards promoting the goods in our society and exposing the evil embedded in corruption practices. He pointed out that St Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital Onitsha was outstanding in the rankings because of huge blessings and intercession of the two popes ( St Paul’s VI and John Paul II now saints) who visited and prayed at the hospital in 1962 and 1982 respectively. He described the awards as sign of more good things to come in the hospital.
