The Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the investigation of men of the Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad.
The group was set up by Anambra State Government to curb the activities of touts, especially in Onitsha and its environs.
There have been complaints about men of the agency molesting youths under the guise of enforcing Soludo’s ‘’Zero Tolerance to Touting’’.
In a latest video trending on social media, which is suspected to have been manipulated through the use of AI, men of the agency were seen molesting a group of youths said to be touts.
But leveraging this, the Soludo Government called for probe of the video, while also warning against the use of AI to cause chaos through misinformation.
A press release by Dr Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, also warned against the use of AI to cause disaffection, while also pledging to ascertain the truthfulness of the video.
The release read: ‘While maintaining a firm stance against any form of touting in the state, the Government has called for a thorough investigation into the said video.
‘The Soludo administration is committed to upholding the rights and dignity of every lawful citizen and resident of Anambra and will not allow any person or group to infringe or inflict pains unduly upon lawful citizens.
‘In this era of AI and sophisticated disinformation, we urge members of the public to always verify media contents before spreading or holding same as true.
‘We assure the public that our commitment to maintaining law and order in the State will always be guided by the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for human rights.’
