Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has inaugurated the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC.
The inauguration, which took place at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, was coming after over one decade since the last local government elections were conducted in the state.
The Governor, while inaugurating the commission, assured that elections would be conducted in the local government areas as soon as possible.
Soludo stressed that they had been called to perform an onerous task, especially as it concerned the conduct of local government elections in the state.
He said: ‘The law clearly spelt out their wide range of functions. You must expedite action and set a date for the conduct of local government elections for ndị Anambra.
‘We charge you to render sterling service with honour and integrity. The conduct of local government elections was a major promise I made to ndị Anambra when I was inaugurated. Crafting the law and getting the institution up and running took some time
‘The rest of the job is in your hands. The people of Anambra are expecting you to hit the ground running. When you are done, announce to the people when you’ll hold elections. I’ve done my job.’
The six-member commission will be led by Mrs Genevieve Osakwe, a magistrate.
