The Association of Papal Knights and Medalists,Nigeria(APKMN), has urged the Nigerian Government to enforce the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act of 2013 to serve as a deterrent against same-sex marriages.
The National President of the Association,Rt. Hon. Commander Steve Adehi said this while addressing journalists at the 16th Annual National Conference of the association with the theme,”Living an Authentic Catholic Life: Challenges and Opportunities in Nigeria”.
According to Commander Adehi, there is an increasing visibility of transgender individuals in Nigeria, citing specifically, one Okuneye Idris also known as Bobrisky.
He pointed out that the Catholic Church’s position is clear against all forms of alternative lifestyles adding that a man who presents himself as a woman,or a woman living as a man,is contrary to the beliefs of the church.
The church he maintained,”condemns these practices in their entirety.
This includes the actions of individuals like Bobrisky,as well as others who live in ways that contradict the biological sex assigned to them by God”.
He pointed out that lack of proper training contributes to poor leadership and appealed to both federal and state governments to adopt Catholic social teachings as essential qualifications for recruitment of persons into leadership roles.
