The Labour Party Caucus in the House of Representatives has expressed deep sadness and devastation over the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Hon. Azuka, who represented Onitsha North State constituency, was kidnapped on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, and his decomposing body was recovered at the 2nd Niger Bridge on February 5.
Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, leader of the LP House of Representatives Caucus, described the incident as “horrendous, heart-rending, and a big blow to the Labour Party and the legislature.”
Hon. Ogene had earlier called on Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to take urgent action to secure Azuka’s release and address the growing insecurity in the State.
The caucus condemned the killing, expressing heartfelt condolences to Azuka’s family, particularly his young wife and children.
He lamented the dire security situation in Anambra, stating that the State has become notorious for kidnappings and killings.
Hon. Ogene emphasized the need for improved security, urging the government to reclaim control from criminal gangs and restore confidence among the people.
The Labour Party lawmakers also commended Governor Soludo’s efforts to tackle insecurity, particularly the launch of the Agunachemba security outfit. However, they stressed that more needs to be done, especially in deploying technology to combat crime.
The caucus prayed for the repose of Azuka’s soul and asked God to comfort his family during this difficult time.
