The Catholic Diocese of Illorin reports the tragic murder of Brother Godwin Eze, who was kidnapped alongside two fellow monks on October 17. In a statement from the diocese, it was revealed that Brother Godwin Eze was brutally killed by his abductors, who reportedly shot him and threw his lifeless body into a river.
This grim revelation comes after the earlier release of the other two monks, Brother Anthony Eze and Brother Peter Olarewaju. Father Anselm Pendo Lawani, the administrator of the Diocese of Ilorin, expressed gratitude for prayers and conveyed his deep sadness about the loss.
The attack was allegedly carried out by Fulani bandits, further highlighting the ongoing insecurity issues in Nigeria. The surviving monks have been relocated for their safety, as threats of attacks continue.
The Diocese of Ilorin serves Kwara state, an area bordering several states affected by violence involving armed groups. The violence persists in some Nigerian states, with attacks attributed to armed Fulani herdsmen and other criminal elements.
