BY REV FR GERALD NWAFOR

There are many ways to die which may occur by accident, by design, and by time. In philosophy, we were told that yesterday was in the past, tomorrow is an illusion, and today is the only present. If you think too much about the past you will be filled with regrets and depression will set in. If you worry too much about the future (tomorrow) you will be afraid of the unknown and fear and anxiety will increase your blood pressure, and you will die prematurely.

Live in the now, live in the present, face what is there, and see how you can contribute to the solution.I have been watching the Nigerian politicians talking about 2027. Anyway, I do not know among them who believe in God and who believe in themselves but one thing I know is (Onye ma echi?) who knows tomorrow? Nobody knows tomorrow except Him who created tomorrow. So why worry about what is not under your control? The governors and representatives of the Nigerian people have abandoned governing in pursuit of who will be in power in 2027.

That is the fastest way to high blood pressure (HBP). When I tune in to watch television, I see politicians who could be discussing how to govern the poor people of Nigeria, instead discussing how they would jump ship so that they could win the 2027 election. What if 2027 never showed up? What if there is no Nigeria to govern in 2027? What if the Creator says, I need an account of your stewardship? What will be your excuse? This noise about 2027 should just stop so that we can have a breath of fresh air.

The pope died on the 21st of April 2025. I have close friends who went to Rome because a friend was going to be canonized by the Pope on the 27th of April 2025. They called me and asked me how long it would take to elect another Pope.

My knowledge is not vast in that area, but I know that it would not be anything less than three weeks. Now they are worried because they do not have that kind of money to stay in a hotel for another two weeks. I advised them that they should come back home and wait for the conclave to happen and wait for the new date.

Thank God they listened to me and came back home because tomorrow is pregnant, and we do not know what is coming (Echi di ime Onyema ife oga amu?)Why should one invest his emotions in what he is not sure of? Look at Rivers State, the sole administrator did not foresee the abuse received by his wife at the hands of the Rivers’ women, who walked out on her and said that they had an agreement with the wife of the president. To add insult to injury, the president’s wife said that she did not send the sole administrator’s wife but the wife of the federal house of Speaker, Mrs. Abbas. Now they would be wondering if the people around the president appreciate them. But I know they would not think deeply about it because of the money involved.

I looked at the thing going around Anambra state I can only ask God to protect his people, since we are in the election year. All the political parties in Anambra state are in a dagger-drawn position, ready to strike their opponents with a mortal blow, so that they can win the gubernatorial election and remain politically relevant. Many politicians would dine with the devil to remain relevant, but it is only the people who can say whether the party would remain relevant, and who will be given the mandate to be at Awka for another four years.

The people who would think too much about the political outcome will be disappointed and develop HBP. Try to live a simple life and avoid the illusion of what the politicians are doing today. Save yourself from the shenanigans going on and you will have saved a lot of self-inflicted injuries. Now the people who have money in some banks are calling to know which bank is stealing people’s money in the name of loan services and transfer charges. All the institutions in Nigeria are due for sanitization, starting from the banking industry, judiciary, elected officials, public servants, and the political class.

I heard that the president is trying to sanitize the NNPCL, I do not know how I feel because whenever you hear such a statement from the Nigerian government, we know that it is just a job for the boys. I am sure that nothing would come out of it. I do not want my blood pressure to go up expecting that the new MD would be better than Abba Kyari. Buhari said we would miss him, and I was a fool not to believe him. Abba Kyari said the same thing and now I know better.

I will wait for the price of the PMS to go up or down before I make my judgment. My people, please do not think about 2027 now because the political permutation is still too far. You can pray about it and ask God to give us a nice person who would be in charge of the Nigerian state. I know that some people will not agree with me because I am not a politician, but I am a human being who knows how to remain spiritually hygienic and mentally alert. We should be taking one step at a time to get to our destination. We should not run in front of our God (onye bulu chie uzo ogbagbue onwe ya na oso). We need to stay healthy and alive so we can fight for freedom.

The noise is too much now. We can also separate the noise from the tune. I have seen and heard the boasting and arrogance of the politicians, but I am not fazed by that because I know that politicians are like the chameleon, who says I will never leave PDP, but today they are in APC. Someone said I will never leave APGA in my life. Today I can’t remember the party flag he is holding because he has jumped shipped more than three times. So, take this HBP medication seriously and your health will change for good.
