Assistant Cathedral Administrator of Christ the King Catholic Cathedral (CKCC), Sabo Gari, Zaria, Rev. Fr. Gabriel David Maikudi has called on Catholics to participate actively in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. He made the call at the cathedral on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, Sunday, June 22, 2025
The clergyman observed that some Catholics do not attend Masses except on Sundays but nudged them to partake of the Eucharist more frequently, for strength, grace and to remain united with the Body of Christ.
“Let no one deceive you.” The priest cautioned. “Do not play with this Sacrament. Do not play with your spiritual life. The Eucharist strengthens us and gives us more graces. If you can eat the physical food every day, why don’t you apply seriousness when it comes to Jesus’ business – God’s business for that matter? Many of us attend Masses on Sundays alone. This Mass is a daily celebration.”
“Before Christianity came to us, we have had this beautiful culture of communion in our culture, where we relate with one another. So, we had that communal life right from our ancestors, and they transferred it to us. What affects you affects me, what affects one person affects all. Your fall is our fall. But today, individualism and selfishness have eaten us like a virus. Jesus is reminding us of the unity that should exist among us.”
Fr. Maikudi implored them to perfect their confession with the belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. He catechized that the Mass is celebrated all over the world on a daily basis – for the living and the dead.
