A priest of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Rev Fr. Ezra Daniel Jatau has condemned unhealthy competition among Christians. Taking this stand at the Mass he celebrated in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Sunday, 29th September 2024, the clergyman offered healthy competition as alternative.
He charged students and other participants to work towards ameliorating what is lacking in their families instead of blaming their ancestors. He however that poverty is relative and that everyone is rich in one way or the other.
“Healthy competition is good.” The priest affirmed. “When you see something good about someone, emulate it. Go close to them and learn instead of criticizing them. Negative criticism will never take you anywhere. Somebody must be better than you. That is life for you.”
“We are all unique. Each of the twenty six letters of the alphabets has its own function to perform. You cannot claim monopoly of God. Just be who you are. Since we are unique, we are gifted differently. The way we go about the things of God will be different. If we not tolerate one another, it will be difficult to live together. You do not need to compete to be relevant.”
“Learn to be enterprising. Do not sit here and blame your fore fathers of not exposing you like other families. In history, there is always a first time. Why not start it if your grandparents did not do it? If they did not do it well, you can make a history.”
