The Parish Priest of St Ann’s Parish Zango Tama and Supporting Priest to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Rev Fr Patrick Atama has charged employers of labour at all levels to treat their employees with fairness. Giving this charge at the Mass he celebrated in Our Lady on 2024 Workers Day, Wednesday 1st May 2024, he lamented that some employers maltreat their workers including those who discharge their duties faithfully.
The clergyman lauded workers who have been committed to their work in the Church and in the society nudging them to keeping doing their work well.“Do not take advantage of those under you.” He cautioned. “It is an opportunity that they are working under you. So, treat them the way you treat yourself, there is a blessing attached to that. Treat them rightly.
Give them their dues at the right time. Whether they are security men or cooks, treat them rightly. The Church emphasizes the dignity of labour and the worker. As we remember St Joseph the Worker today, do what you are expected to do as a worker. If you are a teacher, do what you are supposed to do. If you are a priest, do your work. If you are a farmer, do your work. If you are a gardener, do your work. If you are a child, do your part by respecting your parents. If you are a student, do what brought you to school.
Be active wherever you find yourself. Just do what you are expected to do.Fr Atama prayed that God may continue to give workers the zeal to be active in their work places. He also prayed that God may strengthen the faith of workers those who are maltreated in their places of work.
