A catechesis based project, FaithDigest held her Book Review in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on Sunday, April 13, 2025. The event featured symposium and brainteasers on ‘Understanding the Mass’ by Bishop Joseph Osei-Bonsu and ‘Rome Sweet Home’ by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. Both books were reviewed by Mr. Emanuel Ogbe.
Questions ranging from ‘What makes you a born again?; Differentiate between Necromancy and intercession of saints; explain the dogma of Immaculate Conception; how many grains of incense does a typical Paschal Candle contain? What is the significance of their number? were drawn from the books.
At the end of the exercise, Kella Abagu and Damilola Ogbonyomi emerged winners of the symposium on ‘Understanding the Mass’ and ‘Rome Sweet Home’ respectively. For the brainteasers, Chinonso Ekenta was awarded for offering the best explanation on the doctrine of purgatory and Mark Ogbonyomi was awarded for explaining the Paschal candle.
Speaking on the reason behind the book review, the convener, Mr. Christopher Kpega disclosed that it is geared towards promoting continuous catechesis. He added, “When we gather like this we are bound to learn new things, both from the book we read and from the suggestions, interactions and contributions we had. It is not about reading and winning prizes alone. It is also for them to take it home to their parents, siblings and their loved and to also defend the faith and teach others about the faith, like Mary Magdalene who heard the Good News and went to spread it, so that those in the dark concerning the teachings of the Church will learn.”
The first and the second of the FaithDigest Project activities took place in the same venue on September 28, 2024 and December 26, 2024, respectively.
