The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba, has, on behalf of the Church, congratulated His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, on his election as the 267th Pope and Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.
The Primate, in a letter personally signed and addressed to the new Pope, joined the global Christian community and the Roman Catholic Church in wishing the Pope a gracious tenure as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Archbishop Ndukuba noted that Cardinal Robert Prevost’s emergence as Pope Leo XIV was a moment of great significance and joy, not only for the global Catholic community but also for many in Nigeria.
He deeply appreciated the new Pope’s historic visit to Nigeria in 2016, which, he noted, demonstrated his special love and concern for Nigerians.
‘Your compassionate leadership and commitment to unity, peace, and spiritual renewal give us hope for the future of the Christian faith in our time,’ Archbishop Ndukuba added.
‘We pray that the Almighty God will grant you divine wisdom, strength, and grace to lead the Church in truth, humility, and righteousness.
‘May your Papacy be marked by deeper ecumenical cooperation, a rekindling of faith among believers, and a prophetic voice for justice, peace, and compassion in our troubled world,’ he prayed.
Primate Ndukuba assured the Pope of prayers and goodwill for him as he assumed the sacred and weighty responsibility.
