Onitsha Archdiocese’s Christ the King College (CKC) has made history by clinching the gold medal at the World Affairs Challenge (WAC) 2024, representing the nation in a global showdown. The competition, hosted by WorldDenver, tasked high school students with addressing pressing issues like climate change and poverty through innovative solutions aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Led by their coach, Mr. John Onuigbo, students Ekufu Ernest, Obuna Somtochukwu, Umeodinka Emmanuel, Ejike Ekene, and Ubah Jason impressed judges with their project, “Wise Tales by Primus,” a series of digital comics tackling environmental degradation and substance abuse.
Starting their journey at the African Regional Competition, CKC Onitsha emerged as the top Nigerian team and one of the top five in Africa. Their exceptional performance continued into the global finals, where they outshone competitors from around the world with their comprehensive understanding and passionate delivery.
Rev. Fr. Celestine Arinze Okafor, the school principal, highlighted the win as a reflection of the innovative spirit of the Nigerian youth, inspiring others to tackle global challenges creatively. The CKC Onitsha team will further showcase their project at an award ceremony in Denver, Colorado, later this month, connecting with fellow young leaders on a global scale.
