Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor of the Awka Diocese has voiced concern over the perceived lack of commitment among members of the Catholic Men’s Organisation (CMO).
Speaking at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Awgbu, the Bishop urged men to emulate the dedication he observed in women and actively participate in church activities.
He emphasized the importance of humility, diligence, and a genuine commitment to the church’s well-being, hinting that further admonitions will follow.
Bishop Ezeokafor’s visit, his first to the parish since 2015, addressed longstanding issues resolved prior to the visit.
He also used the opportunity to address hypocrisy and eye-service within the congregation, drawing parallels to the story of Mary Magdalene.
The Bishop urged members to maintain integrity and avoid judgmental tendencies.
The Bishop also addressed the confirmation of 248 candidates, encouraging them to adhere to Church teachings and live as Christ’s soldiers.
He highlighted the importance of interfaith marriage, urging parents to prioritize Catholic partners for their children.
He also touched on the financial challenges faced by Peter University, Achina/Onneh, attributing the high fees to the lack of government grants and arguing that this is crucial for quality education.
Bishop Ezeokafor emphasized the church’s commitment to nurturing character and morality rather than pursuing purely lucrative ventures.
The visit was marked by a Eucharistic celebration, confirmation ceremonies, cultural displays, and speeches from local dignitaries, including Hon. Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief Sir James Obele, and Hon. Romanus Ugochukwu Obi.
Bishop Ezeokafor was praised for his visit and the support shown by the community and the Bishop expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness of the church grounds.
