The Chief Shepherd of the Catholic diocese of Zaria, Most Rev Dr. Habila Tyiakonaboi Daboh commissioned St Martin de Porres Hospital, Wusasa Zaria, on Friday, January 23, 2026. The hospital which has also been accredited as an NHIS Center, was commissioned after its renovation, following the local ordinary’s decision to channel the proceeds of the 2025 cathedraticum to the project.
Disclosing to Trinitas Newspaper, the rationale behind his decision to rehabilitate the hospital, the bishop pointed to its dilapidated state as one of the reasons. This is in addition to the need for “an easily assessable place for treatment of our patients.” Resultantly, the hospital currently serves as an NHIS Center for the priests of the diocese, and other interested persons, even as more enrollees are expected.
At the end of the commissioning, his lordship thanked especially, members of the committee for the renovation, as chaired by the Vicar General of the diocese, Very Rev Fr. Michael Kagarko; In-Charge, Rev Sr. Mary Bulus; and Arch Daniel Shebayan Dimiya, for transforming the hospital to what it has become.
Bishop Daboh who has confidence in the staff, assured that “we will do our best to ensure that things are done the right way.” He then implored them to market to the public for patronage, as needs arise.
