The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, has elected new executive members that will pilot the affairs of the party for the next five years.
Hon Chidi Chidebe, Thursday, assured that his leadership would restore the dignity of the party.
Hon. Chidi Chidebe emerged winner after polling 1080 votes to defeat his opponent, Amechi Onowu that got 960 votes at the PDP State Congress held recently in Awka, Anambra State capital, by a Congress Committee led by Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai. Ossai is the Deputy Governor of Enugu State.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Hon. Chidebe assured that his leadership would restore the dignity of the party.
According to him, the administration would reconcile, register more members and embark on grassroots campaigns aimed at winning back the heart of the public.
The new Chairman, who described the victory as act of God, extended a hand of fellowship to his opponent, assuring that they would work together towards ensuring that the PDP bounced back to power in Anambra State politics and beyond.
‘It is not a victory to one person. This is a victory for all of us. I can assure you that my good brother, Amechi and other contestants are going to work together to restore our party. The 2025 Anambra State governorship election is not going to be business as usual,’ he stated.
Chidebe had, at the inception of his campaign for chairmanship office, launched what he called five topnotch agenda, codenamed, ‘’Reviving, Rebuilding, and Repositioning the PDP for a Victorious Future’’, which, he said, was defined by many derivatives, including clear, measurable steps, concrete programmes and action plans for a successful implementation.
The Women’s Leader of PDP, Mrs Calista Admachukwu, assured that the party would move on for grassroots mobilisation, noting that as a woman, she would ensure that it was realised.
The Vice Chairman Central, Olisemeka Chukwukelu, said they were ever ready for the next election in Anambra State, assuring that PDP was back and ready positioned.
The former youth leader said he would reinvigorate the party, restore confidence among members, and ultimately lead them to success in both the 2025 Governorship Election and the 2027 General Elections.
The agenda included strategies to promote unity, enhance party structures, strengthen relationships with national leadership and grassroots members, foster accountability, and drive grassroots mobilization efforts that will bring them back to electoral success.
The Agenda 1 in the manifesto is Rebuilding Internal Unity and Party Cohesion aimed at healing divisions, fostering collaboration, and establishing a united front across all levels of the party within 30 days; with regular stakeholders meetings and conferences, while the second Agenda entitled, ‘’Strategic Grassroots Mobilization and Voter Engagement’’, is set to re-energize the party base and increase voter turnout by reconnecting with communities at the grassroots level, and would be achieved within 6 months of taking over.
Agenda 3 of the manifesto is Strengthening Synergy with National Leadership and Enhancing Local Government and Ward Relationships whose objective is to create a harmonious and effective relationship with the national leadership of the PDP, while fostering deeper engagement and cooperation with local government and ward leaderships across Anambra State, and would be achieved in 30 days of taking over.
His agenda 4, ‘’Financial Transparency and Resource Mobilization’’, has its objective to include enhancing transparency and accountability while mobilizing resources for the party’s electoral campaigns and administration, and will be implemented within 2 months of taking office, while the fifth agenda, ‘’Governance Accountability and Policy Advocacy’’, is aimed at holding elected officials accountable and positioning the PDP as the voice of the people in advocating for good governance and impactful policies.
