Christians have been charged to remain united as they journey towards eternity. The Parish Priest of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Rev Fr Sebastian Vincent gave this charge at the Mass he celebrated in the parish on Wednesday May 15, 2024.
He leaned on Jesus’ prayer for the unity of His flock in admonishing them to take practical steps in making the prayer come to pass in their lives. The priest who observed that the flock of Jesus comprises the strong and the weak saddled the strong with the responsibility of being available for the weak even as he called on them all to complement one another.“Today in the Gospel reading, Jesus prayed for our oneness.” He told them. “This tells us that as Christians we are called to be united in heart and mind. We are called to shun elements of division among us.
If we see ourselves as one, we will help each other on the journey, we will shun backbiting, and we will shun division among us and help each other grow. We need ourselves on this journey. Let us learn to reach out to the needy.”“In this struggle, we find people with different strengths and weakness, we find the strong and the weak.
The strong should be there for those who are feeble so that together, making this prayer of Jesus come to pass in our lives we make heaven as one people. So, let us learn to identify those in need and reach out to them, not expecting anything in return.”“When you help, that help comes back to you.
When you give without expecting reward or anything in return, you have given from your heart and when you give from the heart, God who sees the heart knows how to bless you. So, it is in giving that you are blessed. Let us do our best to make this prayer of Jesus come to pass and not allow the devil to bring about division among us.”
