Following an audience with Pope Francis, Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the General Secretariat of the Synod, the Vatican’s General Secretariat of the Synod has unveiled the dates for the second session of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. This pivotal assembly focuses on exploring synodality within the Catholic Church.
Building upon the groundwork laid during the initial session held in October 2023 at the Vatican City, the forthcoming second session is slated to convene from Wednesday, October 2nd to Sunday, October 27th, 2024, once again in the Vatican City. The overarching objective remains steadfast: to advance the Synod on Synodality under the theme “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission.”
Preceding the commencement of the Second Session of the XVI Assembly, participants will engage in two days of spiritual retreat, scheduled from September 30th to October 1st, with arrivals expected on September 29th. As anticipation mounts for this significant gathering, the Catholic faithful await with anticipation the fruitful deliberations and outcomes that will further shape the trajectory of the Church’s journey towards synodality.
