The Executive Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, has signed the Anti-Cultism, Land Grabbing, and Taunting bill into law to checkmate cultism and criminalities in the area.
The signing ceremony took place at the council’s conference hall in Ogidi on Friday and was attended by youth leaders from the 11 communities that constitute the council area.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the ceremony, Nkwoka said the law is aimed at prohibiting the existence, membership, and activities of secret cults, land grabbing, and taunting in the council area.
According to the Chairman, the law will work hand-in-hand with security agencies to check the spate of kidnapping, cultism, and other forms of violent crimes across the council jurisdiction.
He emphasized that traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other relevant stakeholders will not be left out in the enforcement of the law to ensure that the ugly incidents are tackled and peace is restored.
Nkwoka stated that his administration is committed to ensuring the security of lives and property, fostering peaceful coexistence, and dealing with crime and criminality in the area.
He expressed his confidence in the effectiveness of community policing in tackling security challenges in the area, adding that proactiveness is required in preventing crimes through intelligence gathering and ensuring rapid response to any distress.
The Chairman extolled Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for his transformative administration and urged Anambra residents to return him for another four years.
In their remarks, the Leader of Idemili North Legislative Council, Hon. Samuel Anikpe, the Secretary of the Council, Hon. Paul Okoye, and other stakeholders commended the Chairman for his bold decision to eradicate violent crime in the area and pledged to mobilize support for Governor Soludo’s re-election.
