There was a feeling of joy and gratitude to God as members of the Trinity Old Students Association (TOSA) of the Trinity College,Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha,doled out scholarships for indigent students of the school to enable them continue with their education.
The Old students who prefer to go with the name,Great Mates,under the leadership of it’s chairman,Mr Bonaventure Nwachukwu said they wanted to give back to their alma mater in their own little way.
They also honoured one of it’s own,Rev Fr Ifeanyi Evaristus Emeto,who graduated from the college and later ordained a priest of the Archdiocese.
The event started with a thanksgiving mass at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity on Thursday where the beneficiaries,friends,teachers,students and pupils of the Trinity group of schools attended.
The mass was concelebrated by the manager of Trinity group of schools,Rev Fr John Ezeanowai (Chief Celebrant) and Rev Fr Ifeanyi Evaristus Emeto,an old boy of the school who also celebrated his 7th year of priesthood.
In his homily,Fr Ezeanowai preached on the need for students to seek excellence in their studies and future careers which was the basis of their being sent to school inorder to be better citizens and fend for themselves and their families.He commended members of the old students association for their benevolence and remembering their alma mater and urged other old students to join the association to make it stronger.
Fr Ezeanowai said that Archbishop Valerian Okeke did not spare any effort to elevate the school to it’s envious level and as such should be appreciated and commended for his love for the school.
At the presentation ceremony,names of the six scholarship beneficiaries were given as,Enemchukwu Chimazu,Ikemefuna Munachi and Nzekwu Sylvia.
Others are,Chukwukelu Happiness,Nzegwu Chiagoziem,and Akamigbo Blessing.
Two Lay Readers were also honoured with unspecified cash gifts.
The chairman of the Planning Committee of Great Mates Association,Mr Elochukwu Okonkwo in his remarks,thanked the school authorities for their encouragement,cooperation and permission to hold the event.Mr Kenneth Ndukuba,an Old Boy and one of the organizers of the event thanked Archbishop Valerian Okeke for his initiative in rebuilding the Trinity College to it’s enviable status and also on the Shanahan University and expressed hope that students of the school and others will benefit from it.
