The archbishop of Onitsha and metropolitan of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province has invested 18 members of the province’s Knights of St Mulumba to the rank of 4th degree.
One of the prominent members invested by the archbishop is the news editor of the Trinitas newspaper of the Archdiocese of Onitsha, Sir Victor Ononye.
In a solemn and colourful ceremony at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, last Sunday (Good Shepherd Sunday), the archbishop, who was represented at the occasion by the supreme chaplain of the order, Rev. Fr Paschal Paul Okeke, adorned the knights and ladies with their new regalia and urged them to continue to be true soldiers of Jesus Christ.
He charged them to lead by example by using their time and talent in the service of humanity.
Earlier in an address, the supreme knight of the order, Sir Charles Mbelede, charged the investees to carry themselves with honour and integrity. He admonished them to watch their actions and inactions in their nuclear and extended families, and in their country and state, saying, “Your actions must show competence and not that of a mediocre.”
Also in his contribution, the metropolitan grand knight of the Onitsha province, Sir Boniface Orakwe, urged the knights to be familiar with the constitution and other obligations of the order and also ensure they perform their obligations to the order, especially their death benefit dues so that their various families would not lose out in the event of their deaths.
He pointed out charity as the watchword of the KSM and urged the members to always assist their fellow members who are indigent.
Sir VC Ononye expressed gratitude to God for the elevation and thanked Archbishop Valerian Okeke and the hierarchy of the KSM for such an opportunity.
