On Sunday, 7th May 2023, the parishioners and friends of St Stephen’s Parish, Federal Housing Estate, came out in their numbers and played host to the metropolitan archbishop of Onitsha, the Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, on the occasion of his pastoral visit to the parish. It was a memorable day in the lives of the parishioners as they beheld their chief shepherd once again. During the Mass, more than 200 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
While delivering the homily, Archbishop Okeke urged Christians to be careful so that the blessings of God and the progress that accompanies such blessings will not lack in their lives and to always be an object of truth, which breeds joy. The prelate further preached that Christ is telling Christians to follow his footsteps, and noted that Christ is the way, the truth and the life. When you do this, said the archbishop, you will meet goodness, and following Christ’s footsteps means readiness to do good to others.
Appreciating his guests, the parish priest, Rev. Fr Donald Uzoh, articulated his sentiments of gratitude to the archbishop, describing him as a shepherd who loves his flock. Also, in an interview and with visible joy, the parish priest thanked God for the favour of the visit and for the innumerable blessings that accompany the visit of the prelate. He attributed the development going on in the parish to the favour of God and appreciated his parishioners for making themselves the tool for such favour. Finally, he reminded the Confirmation to remain faithful to God as he prayed that the light of the Holy Spirit assist them in maintaining the sacrament which they have received.
The vice chairman of the parish council, Sir Eugene C. Nwankwo, was filled with joy as he expressed gratitude to God and the archbishop for a day like that. He further advised the Confirmation candidates not to hide the light of the Holy Spirit which they have received but rather showcase it in their daily lives.
