The Music Director of St. Johnpaul Music Academy (SJMA), SS John and Paul, Iba-Pope Awada in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Odawulu Johnbosco Chidozie, has expressed strong confidence that his team will emerge victorious in the ongoing online Music Academy competition being organized by Loy Excellentia Music initiative for academies in the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha.
Speaking with journalists in Onitsha, Odawulu said the academy has actively participated in several online music competitions with different musical groups, a track record he believes gives his team a competitive edge.
“By the special grace of God, I am convinced that we will emerge victorious. We have been engaging in online competitions with other Music Academies outside the Onitsha Archdiocese. This is the first time Loy Excellentia initiative is organizing this type of Music Academy competition,” he said.
Odawulu, who has trained and is still training many youths who have excelled in various music contests, noted that one of his trainees recently won the City Radio Talent Hunt. He also highlighted the success of his students who earned scholarships through their musical talents.
“Our Chief Organist, a girl, is studying Music at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on scholarship. Another boy organist, currently in JSS1, is on scholarship up to university level. One of our female keyboardists also secured a scholarship in secondary school,” he revealed.
The music director said his greatest joy is seeing his trainees succeed and acknowledge him as their mentor.
“I feel delighted to see myself as a music coach or director because those who win awards or gain scholarships always mention my name as their master. It is God’s doing. Many schools and music academies want me to train their students,” he added.
Odawulu described St. Johnpaul Music Academy as one of the most gifted in the Onitsha Archdiocese, boasting over 80 talented members. However, he lamented the lack of a permanent rehearsal venue and the absence of an official vehicle for outings.
He urged parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to join music academies, stressing that music plays a significant role in children’s development and helps sharpen their intellect.
