Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the establishment of 30 new public schools in various communities across the State.
The approval was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, following the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
Dr. Mefor explained that the new schools will be set up in communities that currently lack public educational institutions. He said the move aligns with Governor Soludo’s vision to expand access to quality education and ensure that every child in the State has the opportunity to attend a publicly funded school within their locality.
“The initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive development, bridging educational gaps, and strengthening Anambra’s human capital base,” Mefor stated.
According to him, the decision was one of several resolutions made at the 22nd meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), held on November 12, 2025, at Light House, Awka.
“The Council approved the construction of thirty new primary schools in communities without existing public schools. This will enhance the reach of the Solution Government’s education programmes and ensure that all communities benefit from the State’s free education policy,” he said.
The Council also adopted the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), paving the way for the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly. The move is aimed at ensuring that the 2026 budget is passed and signed into law by December 31, 2026.
In addition, the Council commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, for the credible conduct of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in the State.
It noted that Governor Soludo, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, was re-elected with 73% of the votes, winning in all 21 local government areas a result the Council described as a testament to the administration’s performance and value driven governance.
The Council members further pledged to remain dedicated to their duties and expressed appreciation to the people of Anambra for their trust and peaceful conduct during and after the election.
