The joyous news has been spreading since the federal government of Nigeria through the National Universities Commission (NUC)issued operating licence for the newly approved Shanahan University of Science and Technology, Onitsha.
The good news elicited hope to parents and guardians whose expectations were to send their children to a secure, affordable and morally good school.
The Archbishop of Onitsha,most Rev Valerian Okeke who initiated the university project and who is also the proprietor of the university was physically present at the reception venue in Abuja to receive the operating licence.
He was accompanied by the chairman of the university project and vice Chancellor of the Archdiocese,Very Rev Fr Basil Ekwunife,the Onitsha Archdiocesan Education Secretary Rev Fr Dr Paschal Onwugbenu and few other priests.
The traditional ruler of Onitsha Igwe Alfred Achebe,Senator Victor Umeh and Sir Engr Ikem Osanakpo joined the Archbishop at the event.
Others are the former vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Prof Ahaneku,Senator Tony Nwoye among others.
Speaking after receiving the licence, Archbishop Okeke expressed gratitude to God for fulfilment of his vision.
He also thanked all those who contributed in one way or the other in making the vision to give the society quality and affordable education.
