Remains of the former Chief Medical Officer of the Holy Rosary Hospital and Maternity,Waterside,Onitsha,Dr Marcel Nnoba were laid to rest at his home town in Ugamuma Village,Obosi,Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State.
His burial mass was celebrated at the St John the Baptist Catholic Church,Obosi where members of his family,his professional colleagues,friends and other sympathisers came to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.
The funeral preparations began on Thursday at the General Hospital Onitsha where his his last consultation took place.
Dr Marcel Nnoba began his medical career after graduating from the University of Nigeria in 1983.After working for a while in Imo state,he returned to Anambra state and took up appointment with Holy Rosary Hospital,Umudioka in 1997 and was transferred the next year to Holy Rosary Specialist Hospital,Waterside,Onitsha.
At the Waterside Hospital,he was said to have been nicknamed “Sharp-Sharp” because of his dexterity and accuracy in surgery.He rose to the rank of Chief Medical Superintendent before he left in 2005 to join Anambra State Ministry of Health at the General Hospital Onitsha.
He excelled in medical practice and was one time state Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association from 2012 to 2014.
He retired from service in 2019 as the Chief Medical Officer of Ekwulobia General Hospital in 2019.
The late Dr Nnoba was an awardee of the Archdiocese of Onitsha stakeholders forum and Sacred Heart Parish,Onitsha.
He had many awards to his credit both in academics and sports.
He is survived by his wife,Marigoretti Ofuchi with three children, Pamela Jennifer and Victor.
