Pope Francis has dedicated his prayer intention for December to the theme of pilgrims of hope. In a video message released on December 3, the Holy Father emphasized the critical need for Christian hope in today’s world.
“Christian hope is a gift from God that fills our lives with joy. And today, we need it a lot. The world really needs it a lot,” the Pope remarked.
Acknowledging the struggles faced by many, Pope Francis reflected on the challenges that can lead to discouragement, such as uncertainty about providing for one’s children or doubts about future job prospects despite educational efforts. “Where can we look for hope?” he asked, before offering an answer: “Hope is an anchor — an anchor that you cast over with a rope to be moored on the shore. We have to hold onto the rope of hope. Hold on tight.”
The Pope encouraged the faithful to foster hope in one another, particularly by discovering a deeper relationship with Christ. “Help each other discover this encounter with Christ who gives us life,” he urged, inviting all to embark on a shared journey as pilgrims of hope. He further highlighted the upcoming jubilee as an opportunity to celebrate and strengthen this hope-filled life.
“Day by day, let us fill our lives with the gift of hope that God gives us, and through us, let us allow it to reach everyone who is looking for it,” Pope Francis said, affirming that “hope never disappoints.”
Concluding his message, he prayed: “Let us pray that this upcoming jubilee strengthens us in our faith, helping us to recognize the risen Christ in the midst of our lives, transforming us into pilgrims of Christian hope.”
