Onitsha Region of Catholic Men organization of Nigeria, (CMON) hosted the archdiocesan body’s end of the year archdiocesan meeting at Immaculate of Mary Parish, Fegge Onitsha on Saturday, 11th November, 2023. At the opening Mass which was presided over by the Host Parish Priest and the Archdiocesan Chaplain of CMON, Rev Fr Sampson Ogbuebuna, the Parish Priest of St Benedict’s Parish, Fegge Onitsha, Rev Fr Christian Onyekwusi delivered the homily tasking members of the body to take the lead in their families.
The priest also charged yet to wed couple at the Mass Mr. John Bosco Okechi and Ms Helen Nwani to take the message of the day to heart for the sustenance of the marriage and family.
“When God created man, He placed him in the Garden of Eden. The Garden of Eden is God’s Presence. So, God kept man in His Presence and gave him the power to protect his wife and family and the power to work. This means that as a man, before you get married, you are to know God; have a means of livelihood and be hard working. It is your duty as the man to teach your wife and family about God. It is the duty of the man to provide and protect the family, but today, it is the woman who provides for the family and teaches men about God. You are the breadwinner of the family and your wife is the manager. You are the priest in the family and you should lead the prayer.”
Fr Onyekwusi attributed leading causes of marital failure to faulty foundation, suspicion, getting married outside the will of God, third party interference among others. He nudged families to sustain their bonds by making God their topmost priority; praying and eating together; forgiving on another; and by avoiding gossip.
