The second Onitsha City Marathon is billed to hold on 30th September 2023 in Onitsha.
Organisers of the marathon,Onitsha Business School (OBS)said through Professor Segun Sogbesan in a media briefing in Onitsha on Wednesday,that arrangements were in top gear to make the event hitch-free.
According to Sogbesan,Onitsha City Marathon is one of the top events that will herald the Ofala festival which is the ancient city’s most celebrated event.
The traditional ruler of Onitsha and chairman of Anambra State traditional rulers council,His Royal Highness Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe has given approval as well as the state government for the event to take place.
The marathon race is estimated to be 21 kilometers race within Onitsha stretching to Nkpor and back to Onitsha.
According to Professor Sogbesan,the prize money for the first winner of the race is $10,000 (Dollars) among other prizes.
Many international athletes are billed to participate in the marathon to give it an international flavor.
In his contribution,the media relations officer of Onitsha Business School Mr Philip Balepo said Onitsha City Marathon is an initiative of Onitsha Business School which is aimed at promoting sports in the commercial city and also for harnessing talents.
According to him,the Onitsha Business School intends to create three world class sporting facilities cut across Onitsha City to help promote,propagate and harness the idle sports talents in the city of Onitsha and beyond.
At the media briefing were the President of Onitsha Improvement Union, representative of the state government,journalists and sports veterans.
