The Nimo Royal cabinet has expressed happiness with the Anambra State Government over the new lease of life in the town following the ouster of gunmen/kidnappers that were camped in a bush along Nimo-Neni Road; just as it has commended the State Government on the construction of some roads in the community.
At a press conference held in the palace of the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Maxi Ike Oliobi, January 17, attended by cabinet chiefs, the Traditional Ruler of Nimo, speaking on behalf of the community and the Traditional Prime Minister, Retired Justice Godwin Ononiba, expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of the state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and his team, for dislodging a terrorist group popularly known as unknown gunmen, that camped at Owa Nimo forest which had been terrorizing the town and her neighbours.
Igwe Oliobi stated, ‘During the yuletide, there was no news of kidnapping, car snatching and other social vices in Nimo. This singular act of His Excellency enabled Ndi Nimo and the neighbouring towns to celebrate the yuletide comfortably without fear of any form of insecurity; be it social or otherwise. We are sincerely happy as the various quarters, villages, social clubs, cultural groups, etc., carried out their respective annual programmes/activities under guaranteed safe environment enabled by His Excellency.
‘We cannot thank him enough for the protection of life and property during this past yuletide. We also implore him to maintain the tempo by making sure that the criminals do not return. We, the good people of Nimo know that security is key to good governance.’
Furthermore, the community thanked the state government for the construction and rehabilitation of some roads in the town such as Uruegbe Nimo Road through Eke Udo to Oye Agu Abagana, which at 95% completion stage; rehabilitation of Nimo/Neni Road; and construction of St. Vincent’s Primary School, Nimo/Ekeudo Nimo Road, which is ongoing.
‘We believe that all these are in line with His Excellency, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s programmes in making Anambra State a prosperous and livable state.
‘We also implore Ndi Anambra in general to support His Excellency in his bid to make Anambra State habitable for all and sundry,’ Igwe Oliobi stated.
It will be recalled that hoodlums masquerading as Igbo liberators had recently camped in the thick bush on the border of Nimo, Neni and Oraukwu, from where they had started to unleash havoc on the town and surrounding communities, a development that prompted the Nimo Community to seek the help of the state government.
It eventually led to the storming of the bush on December 24 by a joint security team which flushed them out and recovered some home-made bombs.
The ouster of the hoodlums ensured that the town had a hitch-free yuletide.
