The metropolitan archbishop of Onitsha, the Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has declared 21 days of special prayers and fasting in the Archdiocese of Onitsha.
The archbishop’s declaration underscored the need for “special, transparent and credible elections with a glorious outcome.”
In a statement made available to Trinitas during the week, which was signed by the Onitsha archdiocesan chancellor, the Very Rev. Prudentius Aroh, the archbishop said he was indeed convinced that those who put their trust in the Lord can never be disappointed.
“We therefore invite our beloved Christian faithful and all men and women of goodwill in the Archdiocese of Onitsha to pray for the major intentions.”
The archbishop listed the 5 major intentions to include divine security and peace in our country Nigeria; peaceful, transparent and credible elections with a glorious outcome; and wisdom to choose God-fearing leaders based on their values, moral standard, credibility of conduct, visionary plans, competence and character, and not based on their political parties.
Other prayer points are that political leaders may conduct themselves with credibility, eschew electoral fraud and any act of lawlessness before, during and after the elections. And also that everybody will come out to exercise his/her franchise.
The archbishop appealed to those who have not collected their PVCs to do so without further delay, and declared that the prayers and fasting will begin on 1st February and end on 21st February 2023.
