Reacting to the recent victory the students of Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji, achieved at the just concluded state maths competition, the manager of the school, Rev. Fr Francis Onwuchurum, has said that he is optimistic that his school will emerge winners at the national level of the competition.
The manager, who was elated over the recent victory, said it’s just a chapter in many success stories the school has recorded in the recent past, stating that the magic wand behind the litany of successes is that the college has put in place the finest academic structures and the most sublime academic services in terms of quality teaching, proper monitoring of students during prep and optimal discipline of the students, all of which contributed to the outstanding performances of the school during the maths competition at the state level.
He stated that he is not surprised at the academic prowess his students are demonstrating, because the school gives nothing less than quality and standard education.
“We have sound and quality teachers who are imparting standard education in the students,” he said. “What Mater Amabilis is offering is holistic education that stands the test of time.”
He commended the proprietor of the school, the Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, for his sincere support, testifying that from the time of the school’s handover to the Church a few years back, the chief shepherd has not relented in investing millions of naira into the mission school sector, a gesture that has continued to yield great results in the academic sector of Anambra and beyond.
“Our archbishop is so passionate about education of the youth. He has invested enough in offering top-notch education through mission schools in the Onitsha Archdiocese. He has trained many priests, religious personnel and other people so that they can come back to give back to the society. [It’s] Good to disclose that I am one of the beneficiaries of his magnanimity. He trained me in Rome and other parts of Europe where I had my studies and now I am happy that I am contrubuting my quota.
“Today, mission schools in Anambra, especially the ones owned by the Onitsha Archdiocese, are setting the pace academically, winning national and international competitions. In essence, our success stories are not unconnected with the strong support of our dear archbishop who is not resting on his oars in order to ensure that young youth are given the best of training educationally,” said Father Onwuchurum.
Mater Amabilis Secondary School will be representing Anambra State in the national maths competition coming up in June.
