Manchester City footballer Matheus Nunes has been arrested in Madrid, Spain, on charges of alleged theft. The Portuguese international was accused of stealing a smartphone from a 58-year-old man at La Riviera nightclub.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours of September 8, when the man attempted to take a photo of Nunes without his permission in the club’s restroom. Allegedly, out of frustration, Nunes seized the phone and did not return it.
Authorities were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. and detained Nunes after the phone was found in his possession. The player was taken to a nearby police station for questioning.
Nunes, 26, originally from Brazil, joined Manchester City two years ago for a transfer fee of €62 million. He is also regarded as a backup player under the team’s manager, Pep Guardiola.
