Security operatives at the old motor spare parts dealers market in Obosi, popularly known as “Ngbuka Obosi”, have nabbed a suspected arsonist who attempted to set the market ablaze. The suspect is said to be a trader at the market. This was disclosed to the press by the general secretary of the market, Ogochukwu Ogoagbaka
Expounding on the issue of the attempted arson, Ogoagbaka disclosed that the suspect, who hails from one of the communities in the lhiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, was arrested by one of the market security operatives after he managed to slink into the market around 3 a.m. with a perforated container stashed with gunpower which he used in igniting a certain store line of the market after carefully bringing out all the goods in his own store. Two of the stores were already ablaze before he was nabbed and the fire was put out by the security operatives.
When asked why he came to the market by that odd hour of the day with an improvised explosive device, he explained that the perforated water container bearing the gunpowder was what he used in reactivating his charms against his debtors. He is reported to be a landlord of a three-storey building in Oba, in the ldemili South LGA of the state, and that he also owns three private vehicles. He also has two wives.
The general secretary, Ogoagbaka, greatly commended the gallantry of the security man who caught the suspect and urged his colleagues to emulate his dedication to duty. He advised the market security operatives to desist from anything capable of disrupting their work such as drunkenness and women.
Efforts to see the chairman of the market, Samuel Efurunwa Igwe proved abortive as he was said to be assisting the Awada police in their investigation of the incident, as well as taking the suspect to the state criminal investigation department in Awka for proper investigation.
