Christians have been urged to always keep their spiritual eyes on the cross of Christ, our Redeemer.
Rev. Fr. Mike Okoye, a Catholic priest of Onitsha Archdiocese, made the urge while preaching a homily last Sunday.
According to him, Christianity without a cross is not real, as the death of Christ on the cross formed the foundation of salvation.
Fr. Okoye enjoined Christians not to be discouraged during periods of temptation, emphasizing that such experiences are necessary for salvation.
“Suffering and temptations strengthen and refine us to become better Christians,” he said.
“In essence, the world is a valley of tears where we are being nurtured and prepared for God’s Kingdom, where everlasting joy awaits those who do the will of God.”
The priest advised Christians not to murmur against God during times of temptation but instead to remain grateful and count their blessings.
“Be contented with what God has blessed you with and shun greed,” he counseled.
Fr. Okoye emphasized the importance of humility and respect in drawing closer to God.
He encouraged Christians to be charitable by giving to neighbors and strangers, promising that God will continue to multiply their blessings and reward them with heaven.
