Legacy University Okija recently brought smiles to its students as the university management established a scholarship foundation for them.
The Pro Chancellor of the university, Chief Dr. Leonard Nkameme, disclosed this during a press conference at the university auditorium.
He stated that the scholarship foundation, sponsored by the university’s board of trustees, aims to assist indigent students whose parents or guardians may not be financially capable of paying school fees until graduation. He added that a good number of graduates have already benefited from this scheme. He clarified that the scholarship is open to every university student willing to register with the foundation, noting that students studying under this scholarship pay reduced school fees.
Furthermore, he announced that the university, in addition to existing faculties, will soon launch Law and Medical Science faculties. “Once the verification process concludes, Legacy University can admit candidates interested in studying law, nursing, and other medical science courses”.
The Pro Chancellor also revealed plans to initiate weekend programs to allow working-class individuals and traders to earn their first degrees.
He emphasized, “At Legacy, we’ve created a unique environment where we produce employable individuals. Today, some of our graduates excel in various sectors nationally and internationally.”
He reiterated that the university’s establishment is not for profit-making but aims to provide top-notch holistic education and make private universities accessible to all Nigerians, not just a select few since the fees are very affordable.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ezekiel Ihionu, expressed delight at the school’s growth through the scholarships awarded to students, noting that the university produces Nigerians of whom the country can be proud.
He urged the Anambra State government, led by Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, to support the university’s mission by improving accessibility via road infrastructure.
The vice chairman board of trustees of the university Chief Festus Onyima in his contribution expressed satisfaction over the academic prowess the university is achieving since it’s inception in 2016, positing that students who are studying in Legacy University are lucky ones because the opportunity the university is providing in area of teaching and character moulding is second to none, adding that every student in Legacy University is in safe hands.
Additionally, the Dean of Student Affairs, Mrs. Chinyere Ibe, highlighted the rules and regulations guiding students, emphasizing the university’s commitment to instilling sound morals.
Admission Officer, Mr. Vincent Ezeme, outlined the admission process, stating that Legacy University, as a government-approved and licensed institution, requires candidates to meet minimum requirements through JAMB, adding that ongoing admission is open to every qualified candidate irrespective of the university you originally applied for. If you have been denied admission at any Nigerian university , Legacy University is there to offer you admission once you are qualified,” he stated.
Dr. Julius Temuhale, (the Director Academic Planning) explained how academic activities align with the university’s goals, mission, and vision, emphasizing the management’s efforts to provide a conducive learning environment, adding that students graduate at record time since the university doesn’t go on strike.
Parents including Mrs. Chidimma Nweke and Mr. Sufficiency Ngini advised others to enroll their children at Legacy University for quality education.
Student Representative Council President, Comrade Godson Chibuzo, praised his three years at Legacy, citing a conducive academic environment and exemplary institutional conduct.
Vice President of the Student Representative Council, Okechukwu Ruth, commended the cordial relationship between lecturers and students, emphasizing their commitment.
Student Igwe, HRH Anumba Soludo Kelvin, highlighted the cultural significance of the university’s annual cultural day, promoting peace, unity, and cultural understanding. He expressed joy in his decision to attend Legacy University, considering it the best decision of his life so far.
