The Gubernatorial Candidate of Action Alliance (AA), Ozo Jeff Nweke, has called on Christians to be alive to their expectations by living impactful lives that will benefit society. Nweke made this call last Sunday when he attended a church service at Hear the Word of God Church in Nkwelle, Awka South Local Government Area, where he was given the privilege to preach to congregants.
The Guber Candidate who is popularly called ‘’The Nigga’’, spoke on the virtues of a good Christian which he summarized as compassion, and not being aloof when things were happening around them.
He said a good Christian should be able to positively influence society and not be cocooned in their selfishness, even as he urged Christians to be receptive to God so they could hear when he spoke to them. He noted that God did not need to speak to anyone through others but straight to them and regretted however that because of sin many could not hear God directly and thus relied on others to relay God’s message to them.
Nweke described himself as a servant of the people chosen by God and recalled the period when cultists laid siege on the state capital and he decided to fight back; not by killing them, but by using other means that would get to them, such as offering them empowerment.
On the coming Guber Election in the state on November 8, the Awka-born Nweke charged the congregation to vote according to their conscience and not because of money in order to drive positive change.
He said with the coming election in the state, many politicians were already positioning themselves to buy up votes in the election, just as he described vote-buying as one of Nigeria’s most stubborn political ills which posed a great obstacle to good governance. He warned voters of the long-term consequences of selling their votes for cash.
‘The money you collect today means you’ve taken your share of basic infrastructure in advance. You then lose the moral right to challenge bad governance.
‘As I’m speaking to you all now, I know if I decide to say that everyone in this church will go home with one million Naira each, you all will be happy. But you must ask yourself, how will this guy recover the money he has given out?
‘That is why after buying your votes, many politicians, once they get to office, stop seeing you. They have to settle down to recover the money they spent.
‘We must all join hands to stop it. We know that times are hard. If they give you money, collect it, but you must vote your conscience; you must vote not because you were given money, but because you know who can do the job,’ Nweke said, while charging them to get registered in order to vote. He said that was the only way they could elect those they wanted.
