The Justice,Development,Peace and Caritas(JDPC), Archdiocese of Onitsha has begun public sensitization on the harmful effects of Child Labour and Human Trafficking.
In a statement, the Onitsha Archdiocesan Director of JDPC,Rev Fr Dr Edwin Udoye said that upon all efforts to stem the twin evil of human trafficking and child labour, some Nigerians still indulge in them.
The sensitization he said,is part of the current JDPC Week in the Archdiocese.
Fr Udoye lamented that human trafficking has led many young girls into prostitution in quest for money even as many of them meet their untimely death in the hands of their modern day slave masters.
He enjoined parents to monitor the behaviour of their wards and children and try to channel them into meaningful means of livelihood, adding that many of them have been exposed to organ trafficking.
On child labour,fr Udoye urged parents and guardians to endeavour to send their wards to school and desist from sending them into hawking and petty trading so they can have a better future.
In a similar development, members of the JDPC,Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity,Onitsha, during the week kicked off sensitization campaign in observance of the JDPC Week.
According to an official of the organisation,JDPC Week activities include talk on Democracy,Child Labour, citizenship, enterpreneurship and human trafficking.
They also spoke on the need for children to be sent to school.
