The Women Wing of St Jude Igbo Catholic Community of Good Shepherd Parish, Graceland Zaria, launched their local musical instrument at the parish, on Sunday, June 22, 2025. The Royal Father of the Day and the Ezeigbo II Zaria, Igwe V.I Unogu (KSM) thanked the women for such initiative and canvassed support for them. The event was chaired by Mr. Chigozie Okeke (GOZIK Electrical), who observed the progress the group was making in the right directing.
A minute silence was observed in honour of late Sir Paul Nnaemeka Obah was died the previous day. Sir Obah’s wife, Lady Anthonia Ngozi Obah was to be the Mother of the Day.
In her address, the Chairlady of the group, Dr. Mrs. Josephine Anyanwu thanked everyone who responded positively to their invitation. She intimated that the instruments they have acquired would help them to promote Igbo culture and bring healing to the body, through dance and music since, “music and dance are a medicine to the body.” The group also intends to promote peace and unity among members; and raise money to run their activities through the launching.
Dr. Anyanwu who gave her address in Igbo Language lamented the lackadaisical attitude of many parents of Igbo origin towards the language. She reoriented that the Igbo Language is in the 2004 UNESCO list of endangered languages, partly because it is spoken mainly by Igbo adults and because many parents do not speak the language to their children.
She nudged them to speak the language to their children for its continuity and for the promotion of their cultural heritage. Donations were made in support of the women.
