The former Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Fidelis Okafor, revealed on Sunday, March 15, 2026, how the hostels in Holy Family Youth Village, Amansea, Awka, contributed to securing the first accreditation for the Faculty of Medicine of COOU.
Prof. Okafor disclosed this while speaking to Trinitas Newspaper correspondent during the official blessing of the new chapel at the youth village.
“When I was the Vice-Chancellor of COOU, a Faculty of Medicine was built, but we had no accommodations for our medical students then. We later got accommodation for them at Holy Family Youth Village, Amansea, Awka. When the National Universities Commission (NUC) team eventually visited for accreditation, they commended the beautiful hostels at Holy Family Youth Village, describing it as most conducive for medical students.
“Driven by that impression, they didn’t hesitate in giving our Faculty of Medicine full accreditation. In essence, Holy Family Youth Village is the best in Nigeria in terms of providing the most conducive hostels for students.”
Prof. Okafor praised the proprietor and founder of the youth village, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, for the noble project that has greatly helped in reshaping the youth who lived in the hostels during their studies.
He also commended the Rector, Rev. Fr. Prof. Dominic Obielosi, for being an instrument in ensuring that the vision and mission for establishing the youth village are sustained.
“Fr. Obielosi, with his team, has produced world-class graduates who are morally sound and impactful in our society since the inception of the place.”
