The Principal of Archbishop Heerey Technical College Ogidi, Rev Fr Dr Peter Nwadimkpa, on Friday, praised the Old Boys Association of the school for erecting and donating a gigantic multi-purpose building to the college.
According to him, the multi-purpose building houses apartments and classrooms. The project is a completion of a building that was abandoned thirty-five years ago. “They took up the construction of the building three years back and completed it last year. I thank God for the old boys because the project is unique,” he said.
“Our old boys did what many old boys of various schools in Anambra state will find it very difficult to achieve. It is amazing. I thank them for that great gesture and achievements, asking God to bless them as they prepare to do more for the school.”
He thanked the worldwide president of the association of old boys of the college, Chief Sir Dr Isaiah Okafor (Chi na echi Eze na Ogidi), for his sincere efforts in galvanizing his fellow old boys into action that led to the commencement and completion of the project.
“We cannot thank our Archbishop cum proprietor of this great college, His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke, enough for reviving and rebuilding the college shortly after it was returned to the church a few years ago. The college was in a sorry state then, with all the structures dilapidated and decayed. Today, the college has bounced back to her former glory, courtesy of the Archbishop.”
The Principal further highlighted recent achievements of the college, disclosing that recently, the school participated in the World Affairs Challenge and emerged first in Nigeria. “Two years ago, we also won the African regional level of the World Affairs Challenge, beating several schools across Africa with their innovative Heerey Solar Tracker project. This project tackles Nigeria’s electricity and plastic waste pollution issues.”
Last year, the school emerged fifth globally in the USA finals, took first position in the Spelling B competition, and second position in Techno Innovation organized by the Anambra state government.
The school also held Maiden Talent Incubation and Career Day celebration last year, where students showcased various skills they learnt from the school.
The Principal thanked Engr Frank Okafor for instituting a ten million naira endowment fund to encourage skills acquisition and Rear Admiral Charles Obiora Medeani for supporting the college.
“Without mincing words, our school is a school to beat in terms of technical innovation and best engineering. The school is gradually producing potential experts in Engineering. Today, our school is the fastest growing Technical college in Anambra state. Any student who chooses this school has chosen the best.”
The school has plans to establish an Epiphany lab to give students all-round education. “In essence, you can create and develop something meaningful without being a science student,” he said.
