Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior was named FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player of the Year on Tuesday, edging out Manchester City’s Rodri by just five votes.
The award, which was presented during a ceremony in Qatar, recognized Vinícius’s outstanding performances over the past season.
Vinícius, who had been runner-up to Rodri for the Ballon d’Or in October, was voted the world’s best player by 48 votes, with Rodri finishing second with 43 votes.
Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid took third place with 37 votes, a strong showing for the young English midfielder.
The Brazilian winger’s victory comes after a standout season with Real Madrid, where he played a crucial role in their success, including their Champions League and La Liga triumphs.
His impressive dribbling, speed, and ability to score in key moments made him one of the most dangerous players in world football.
In the women’s category, Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí was named The Best Women’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive time.
Bonmatí, who had a remarkable season leading Barcelona to multiple titles, took home the award for her exceptional skills, vision, and leadership on the field.
The Puskás Award for the best goal of the year went to Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, who wowed fans with a sensational overhead kick against Everton in November 2023.
The Coach of the Year awards saw two notable names honored. Emma Hayes, former Chelsea manager and now head coach of the U.S. women’s national team, was named Women’s Coach of the Year
Hayes led the U.S. to an Olympic gold medal in Paris after also winning the Women’s Super League with Chelsea. This honor follows her recent success at the Ballon d’Or awards, where she was named Coach of the Year.
In the men’s coaching category, Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti was named Men’s Coach of the Year after guiding his team to victory in both the Champions League and La Liga last season.
