Hon Uche Okonkwo, the federal legislator representing Idemili North and South constituency, has attracted a mini sports stadium for the people of his constituency, although the venue of the project will be unveiled soon for the federal government to commence action.
Disclosing this while speaking with newsmen immediately after the end of final matches of Hon Uche Okonkwo football competition 2025 edition held at Ojoto Boys Secondary School field, Ojoto, last Sunday, Mr Aderibigbe Razak Abiodun, the clerk of the House of Representatives committee on sports, who represented Hon Okonkwo during the event, stated that the mini stadium, when completed, is expected to be equipped with international sporting equipment, which will help to develop sporting talents among youths in Idemili North and South constituency.
On the standard of the football competition, he described it as amazing and encouraging, and heaped praises on Hon Okonkwo for having the interest of the youths in his constituency in his heart, adding that he not only sponsored the competition but also brought international scouts to scout for abundant football talents in the constituency.
Earlier, during the football competition, Nkpor community had emerged overall champion after subduing their opponent Akwukwu community in a penalty shootout that ended 5-4 in their favor. The full-time score, which was marred by protest, had earlier ended 1-1 for each side.
Eziowelle community had, in a third-place match, defeated their opponent Nnokwa community.
At the end of the day, the following prizes were distributed to deserving teams:- Nkpor community – ₦3m (who also went home with a giant silver cup,- Akwukwu – ₦2
m- Eziowelle – ₦1m Nnokwa – ₦250,000. Other prizes for highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, best-behaved team, etc.
