His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, urged Christians to embark on a journey of righteousness as they prepare for the second coming of Christ. The Chief Shepherd made this call on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, during his pastoral visit to St. Hilary’s Parish, (Iba Pope Awada)Owele Aja, Obosi.
In his homily, Archbishop Okeke described the Advent season as a period of expectation, emphasizing the need for repentance. He explained that Christ’s coming is multifaceted, explaining that Christ comes to us four ways which includes his historical coming
celebrated annually at Christmas, commemorating Jesus’ birth; The Mystical Coming – Experienced through the Blessed Sacrament, Confession, Holy Masses, and the Sacrament of Confirmation; The Individual Coming that occurs at the moment of death, when each person meets Christ and finally
the Eschatological Coming which is the final coming in majesty and glory, when Christ will judge the living and the dead.
The prelate enjoined Christians to
increase love and charity towards one another, uphold justice and fairness, embrace forgiveness, letting go of grudges and past wrongs and treat others with kindness and compassion, as they would wish to be treated
“This season of Advent is a time for spiritual reflection and growth. As Christians, we must strive for holiness, preparing ourselves for the second coming of Christ,” Archbishop Okeke emphasized.
The Archbishop’s message resonated with the congregation, urging them to embark on a path of righteousness, forgiveness, and love, as they anticipate the return of Jesus Christ.
