The parish priest of SS John and Paul, Iba-Pope Awada, Very Rev. Fr. Victor Mbanisi, and members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Awada Zone One, successfully celebrated their cultural fiesta.
The event, held at the church premises, was attended by over six zonal branches of the CWO. The ceremony, well-organized by Mrs. Ifeoma Onwugharam and her team, was presided over by Chief Jude Ikechukwu Orizu, the Omeluora Igbariam.
The occasion was well-attended by Catholic faithful, politicians, and community leaders. Speaking at the event, Chief Orizu reminded mothers of the need to reactivate their family responsibilities in view of the increasing immorality among children.
He lamented the spate of evil perpetrated by children, particularly the “get rich quick syndrome,” which he blamed on poor family upbringing, especially on the part of mothers. He noted that mothers are more closely connected with their children than fathers, who struggle to provide for the family’s needs.
Commenting on the CWO cultural fiesta, which aimed to raise funds for Bishop Shanahan University and the CWO administrative vehicle, as well as promote Igbo cultural traits, Chief Orizu stressed the need for all concerned to participate in raising funds for the citadel of learning.
The event featured a cultural dance competition and the display of traditional Igbo dishes. The high point of the ceremony was the cutting of the cultural fiesta cake.
