The Catholic Men Organisation (CMO) Awada Zone recently showcased Igbo cultural heritage in an event promoting the culture of the Igbos. Rev. Fr. Victor Mbanisi, Parish Priest of S.S John and Paul Iba Pope Awada, and Rev. Fr. Sampson Ogbuebune, Chaplain of Awada Zone, led the celebration.
The event featured awards for distinguished CMO members, fundraising, and the election of the overall Igwegburugburu for the Awada Zone. Chief Chukwuka Duru Chima of Orsumenyi emerged as the Igwe-elect in a closely contested competition.
Awardees, including Mayor Peter Ezenwamba, Chief Thomas Agozie, Hon. Obinna Umeh, Mrs. Ifeoma Onwughalum, and Ambassador James Michael Ezejah, expressed gratitude for the recognition.
Mayor Ethelbert Umeh, who donated to the event, thanked the organizers for appreciating CMO members. Rev. Fr. Victor Mbanisi praised the event and urged members to support the organization.
Hon. Isaiah Cardinal Umennaihe commended Rev. Fr. George Adimike’s handling of the election controversy.
Chief Chukwuka Chima Duru, the emerging Igwe, emphasized promoting good Igbo cultural heritage, urging the Igbos to preserve their cultural traditions that align with God’s will .
Similar events promoting Igbo culture have taken place globally, such as the Igbo Worldwide Festival of Arts and Culture in Georgia, USA . The Face of Igbo Heritage Legend International Foundation also works to unite Igbos and celebrate their culture.
