As the Christmas season approaches when crime of various types increase, especially in this hard times, undercover policemen have taken positions in hotels, drinking joints and other social gatherings.
The plain-cloth detectives according to inside source are not leaving any stone unturned in nipping in the bud criminal activities in the commercial town of Onitsha.
Last week two young men alleged to be biological brothers were burnt to death by angry mob over allegation of revenue touting and dispossession of belongings from a lady on Keke.
The incident which happened at Bida Road/ Sokoto Road near Onitsha Main Market served as a warnings to criminals operating in Onitsha.
Nigerians are saddened by the worsening economic situation across the country and can not tolerate anybody or group of people who may want to take advantage of the high rate of insecurity across Nigeria to perpetrate crime.
In Onitsha policemen from Area Command are not resting on their oars this coming Yuletide. According to a reliable source most of the damaged police patrol vehicles have been repaired and now in good condition while others are still parked inside the station.
Detectives are now been encouraged to rise to the responsibilities of the season in order to give criminals a tough time in the commercial town and its environs.
When contacted on phone over the preparedness of policemen under his command during the Christmas and New Year season, Onitsha Police Area Commander, Gregory Itobore (ACP) declined to comment, stressing that he was not instructed to speak to the press.
Mr. Itobore an experienced and thorough bred officer have been giving criminals a tough time since he assumed duty in Onitsha.
