Archbishop Okeke, Igwe Achebe, Others Commend the College for Academic Excellence

Christ the King College Onitsha has achieved an unprecedented feat by being nominated as the best high school in Africa for the year 2024. This remarkable achievement was disclosed by the school principal/manager, Rev. Fr. Dr. Celestine Arinze Okafor, during the celebration of the patronal feast of the college held last Sunday, November 24th, 2024.
According to Fr. Okafor, the Global Skills Hub, United Kingdom, nominated the college as the “Most Outstanding Private School in Africa for the year 2024.” The award will be presented to the college early next year in Zimbabwe.
The college also emerged as the winner of the Global Champions in the World Affairs Challenge, organized by World Denver. This achievement marks the first time an African high school has won the challenge since its inception 32 years ago.
Fr. Okafor attributed the college’s success to its commitment to delivering holistic education, which is championed by the Onitsha Archdiocese. He also thanked Archbishop Valerian Okeke for his unwavering support and encouragement. He extolled the old boys of the college for their unflinching support and donations. He thanked the deputy manager Fr. Clement Obi, the Staff and workers for their significant contributions towards the achievements of the academic success.
Other notable achievements highlighted by the college include: Out of 131 students who sat for WAEC and NECO, 125 made As and Bs across 7 subjects. In mathematics, 128 out of 131 students got A1. In science subjects, 94 students made A1 in Chemistry, while 84 got A1 in Physics. The college took the first position in the Archbishop Valerian Okeke Science Competition (AVOSCO) junior category in the Onitsha region. The students of the college also secured a significant number of slots in the Ignatius Aguowoh Scholarship Foundation due to their outstanding performance in the scholarship competition. CKC took 4th position in the National Stigma Quiz Competition in the Federation.
In the area of sports, the college won Gold medal in basketball at the 2024 Anambra State Secondary School Sports Competition. The college also won Gold medals in both singles and doubles tennis at the 2024 Anambra State Secondary School Sports Competition.
Archbishop Okeke, who is also the proprietor of the college, expressed satisfaction with the college’s achievements and urged them to sustain the tempo. He commended Fr. Okafor for his dedication and commitment to ensuring the college’s excellence.
The Onitsha monarch, His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, congratulated the college for its academic excellence and commended Archbishop Okeke for his efforts in revolutionizing education in Anambra.
The chairman ASUBEB Dr. Mrs. Vera Nwadinobi who spoke to Trinitas Newspaper said she was excited over the great transformation in the college, stating that CKC is doing wonderfully well.
Also, an old boy of the college Sir Chukwuemeka Ezeonyejiaku who is a parent extolled the college for maintaining status quo ante academically, morally and otherwise, positing that he is satisfied on the quality training his wards are receiving from the college.
Another parent, Francis Chidieble Obiegbue in his contribution said the top-notch education the college is impacting on students attracted him to enroll his children, remarking that the fees are affordable when compared with the quality training the college is offering.
High point of the event was commissioning of newly constructed sports facilities at the college.
